Framework Laptop 13 Chromebook Edition (2022)

Launched in September 2022 in partnership with Google12, the Chromebook Edition is based on the 12th Gen Intel Framework Laptop 13 but runs ChromeOS. Unlike the standard laptop, the Chromebook has a fixed specification — i5-1240P, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD — while retaining the same upgradability3. Framework claimed upgraded speakers and batteries compared to the standard laptop, though reviews described the speakers as "muffled"4 and rated battery life as poor for a Chromebook56. The Chromebook was also criticized for its $999 price point27. It uses the open-source coreboot firmware89.

Known Issues

  • Keyboard intermittent keys — Some Input Cover units from a subsupplier had a manufacturing defect (burr in the lattice near the Delete key) causing keys to intermittently stop working, most commonly in the right-side keyboard columns (Enter, Backspace, Delete, D, or P, 0, minus). Framework added quality checks and provides replacement Input Covers under warranty9. See the full problem page for details.
