Piano Keyboard Input Module

The Piano Keyboard Input Module is a custom input module for the Framework Laptop 16 created by community member Pitstoptech. It features velocity-sensitive keys that function as a MIDI controller, turning the input deck into a musical instrument12.

Design

The module replaces one of the hot-swappable input module slots on the Framework 16 with a mini piano keyboard. Each key is velocity-sensitive, allowing expressive musical performance directly from the laptop. The module presents itself as a MIDI device over USB12.

Development

As of August 2025, the creator confirmed development is still active and that both this module and the related Drumpad module output MIDI with velocity and aftertouch. The keyboard is planned to be revised to share the drumpad's sensing technology for more accurate feedback, with an update promised. No release date or commercial availability has been announced3.
